Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has dismissed widespread speculations about his health, describing reports of his alleged illness abroad as “false and misleading.”
The governor, speaking during Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day and Ebonyi State’s 29th anniversary celebration in Abakaliki, expressed surprise over social media claims that he had traveled overseas for medical treatment.
According to Nwifuru, the rumors caused unnecessary panic among Ebonyi residents and even worried his father, who had to reach out to confirm his wellbeing. He stressed that he was never sick during his official trip abroad.
“I was shocked by the false reports about my health. People mistake meekness for weakness, but let no one push a man to the wall. I am healthy and fully committed to serving Ebonyi people,” he said.
The governor urged young people not to misinterpret his calm and resolute nature as a lack of strength, noting that his leadership style is intentional and people-focused.
Highlighting his administration’s progress since 2023, Nwifuru reiterated his commitment to the People’s Charter of Needs, outlining policies and programs aimed at development across Ebonyi State.
He also thanked past leaders, including former Governors Sam Egwu and Martin Elechi, for their contributions to the state’s growth since its creation in 1996.
The Independence and anniversary event featured a guard of honour, presentation of staff of office to newly appointed traditional rulers, and solidarity messages from political stakeholders. The State APC Chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha, alongside other dignitaries, pledged continued support for Nwifuru’s administration.
With Ebonyi marking 29 years of statehood, Nwifuru emphasized unity, resilience, and steady progress as reasons for celebration.
