Ebonyi Native, Chinworeke Mmadu, Dies in Foiled Imo Explosion

The man who died in a foiled bomb explosion at Obinwanne, Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State on Sunday, September 21, has been identified as Chinworeke Mmadu, a native of Ebonyi State.

Police reports confirmed that the explosive device he was carrying detonated prematurely, leading to his death on the spot. Two passers-by were also injured and are currently receiving treatment at Santa Maria Hospital, where their condition remains stable.

While investigations continue to uncover the motive behind the incident, the identity of the deceased has drawn attention to his family in Ebonyi, who are now faced with the difficult reality of the circumstances surrounding his death.

The Imo State Police Command, through its spokesperson Henry Okoye, confirmed that the scene was secured by operatives from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Hamzat A. Abdulkadir. The area has since been declared safe for public use.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has assured residents of Imo that security agencies remain committed to protecting lives and property. He further advised the public to report any suspicious objects or activities to the nearest police station.
