Ebonyi Governor Lauded by NYSC for Major Strides in Health Infrastructure

Date:

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has given a nod of approval to Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State for his proactive efforts in strengthening the state’s healthcare infrastructure, especially in support of corps members.

The commendation came in light of the Governor’s recent authorization to establish a new clinic within the NYSC orientation camp—a move seen as a significant boost to healthcare access for serving youths.

NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Oladeinde Foluke, delivered the remarks during the swearing-in of 1,172 Batch A Stream 1 corps members (548 males and 624 females) at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp located at Old MacGregor College in Afikpo.

Mrs. Oladeinde highlighted several key developments, which include the Governor’s approval for the construction of a new clinic to improve healthcare services at the camp. This will provide corps members with better medical facilities and access to timely care. Additionally, the Governor also approved the construction of a new female hostel, aimed at providing safer and more comfortable accommodation for the female corps members. In addition to this, plans for the construction of additional hostel spaces for female staff were also greenlit, further enhancing the living conditions for those working at the camp.

Another notable achievement mentioned by Mrs. Oladeinde was the installation of a new transformer by the Ebonyi chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), under the leadership of Hon. Chinedu Uburu. This new transformer is expected to ensure a more reliable power supply to the camp, which will significantly improve the overall camp environment for learning and other activities.

Mrs. Oladeinde also took the opportunity to appeal for the perimeter fencing of the camp, which she believes would provide an added layer of security for both corps members and staff.

In his remarks, Mr. Hilary Ogbonna, the Permanent Secretary of the Ebonyi State Ministry of Youths and Sports, who represented Governor Nwifuru, assured the newly sworn-in corps members of the state’s continued commitment to their welfare and safety throughout their service year.

These efforts by the Governor and various stakeholders are seen as part of the ongoing drive to make Ebonyi State a more conducive and secure environment for the youth serving in the NYSC program, and to ensure that the health and safety of corps members are prioritized.
