The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Nwobo Williams Chibuike, a well-known land fraudster, in Abuja.
Chibuike, from Ebonyi State, is accused of defrauding the public by selling non-existent land plots in areas such as Kurudu, Sabon Lugbe East Extension, Kpeyegyi, and Jikoyi Village Extension in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Investigations revealed that Chibuike, who falsely claims to be the Managing Director of C&C Reality & Construction Limited, Dream-Krest Homes and Properties Limited, and Dan Faith Shelters Limited, was marketing fake properties across several FCT locations. Victims were lured into paying amounts ranging from N60,000,000 (Sixty Million Naira) to N3,500,000 (Three Million Five Hundred Thousand Naira) for plots in areas like Karsana, Pyakasa, Jikwoyi, Kurudu, Katampe Extension, Guzape 2, and Kuje.
Further checks with the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) revealed that none of the properties promoted by Chibuike or his agents were legitimate.
Chibuike will be charged in court as soon as the investigation is concluded.
The EFCC advises the public to exercise caution when dealing with land vendors, especially mobile marketers in the FCT, and to verify property legitimacy before making any payments.
