The Ukawu community in Onicha Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, has refuted claims that their traditional ruler, HRH Vincent Ajah (Ogenyi IV), falsified his First School Leaving Certificate.
Speaking in Abakaliki, High Chief John Elom Elom, a member of the Eze-in-Council, described the allegations as baseless and misleading. He clarified that kingship in the community is not determined by academic qualifications but by literacy, nobility, and character.
Chief Elom highlighted that HRH Vincent Ajah was lawfully elected in November 2023, winning 570 votes against his opponent’s 73 in an election supervised by government officials. He questioned why the certificate issue was being raised a year after the coronation, emphasizing that past rulers did not require formal education to ascend the throne.
The spokesperson also accused a petitioner—previously stripped of his chieftaincy title for misconduct—of attempting to mislead the public with false claims.
The Ukawu community reaffirmed their support for HRH Vincent Ajah, urging the public to disregard the forgery accusations.
