Erosion Threatens Communities: Edda Stakeholders Appeal to Federal Government

Date:

At the 2024 end-of-year gathering of Edda East State Constituency stakeholders in Owutu Edda, urgent concerns were raised over a severe erosion threat at the 24 Corners Ugwuoba Nguzu along the Oso-Owutu-Nguzu Edda Federal Road.

Hosted by former Commissioner for Information, Mr. Abia Onyike, the meeting culminated in a communiqué urging the Federal Government, under President Bola Tinubu, to utilize the dry season to address the erosion site, which has nearly severed access to communities within the constituency.

“The road, severely eroded for two years, risks being completely cut off without immediate intervention,” the communiqué warned.

Stakeholders also applauded the efforts of Edda Local Government Chairman, Mr. Chima Ekumankama, for his commitment to restoring peace following recent crises tied to the Eke Offia cultural festival in Etiti Autonomous Community. They expressed optimism that his strategies would prevent further communal disturbances.

Praise was also extended to the State APC Chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, for his contributions to the development of Edda, and to Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for new road projects and improvements in educational infrastructure.

The stakeholders pledged their support for Governor Nwifuru’s second-term bid, citing the need to consolidate his development achievements in the state.
