Governor Nwifuru Prioritizes Governance Over Second-Term Campaigns

Date:

During the Praise Night event in Abakaliki to celebrate the 2024 Christmas and usher in the New Year 2025, Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State called on his aides and political stakeholders to refrain from campaigning for his second term.

Held at the Christian Ecumenical Centre, the event was organized by the state government in partnership with the Ebonyi branch of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN). Governor Nwifuru used the occasion to emphasize his commitment to delivering quality leadership for the remainder of his tenure.

He stated:

“We are not asking for votes now. If we decide to seek re-election, we will let you know when the time is right. For now, our focus is on fulfilling our current mandate.”

The governor urged his team to highlight the administration’s achievements over the past year and seven months during the festive season instead of engaging in premature campaigns.

Expressing gratitude to church leaders, his cabinet, and political appointees, Governor Nwifuru announced May 29, 2025, as a day to account for the administration’s stewardship. He noted:

“We’ve sacrificed a lot to ensure peace and deliver the dividends of democracy to our people. On May 29, 2025, we will show Ebonyi citizens how we have prudently utilized their resources.”

The event featured prayers, gospel music, and a sermon by Archbishop Goddy Okafor, who encouraged Christians to praise God in all circumstances. CAN Chairman Rev. Dr. Scamb Chinedum Nwokolo described the Praise Night as a unifying festival for Christians across the state, thanking the governor for his support of the church and community.
