Ebonyi Chief Judge Launches Justice Committee

Date:

The Chief Judge of Ebonyi State, Justice Elvis Ngene, inaugurated a 15-member Advisory Committee on Monday, tasked with driving the state’s Court Administration and Case Management (CACM) initiative. This project aims to enhance the speed of justice delivery through the digitization of court processes.

Justice Ngene urged the committee to work diligently toward achieving the project’s goals, emphasizing the significant benefits it would bring. He expressed gratitude to the Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC) for their role in introducing the project to Ebonyi and assured of the state government’s support for its successful implementation.

“The advantages stemming from this project for both the judiciary and the state as a whole are substantial; it will facilitate quicker and more efficient justice,” he stated, highlighting the challenges posed by the current analogue system used in various courts and organizations.

The state’s Attorney-General, Dr. Ben Odoh, also praised the PPDC for selecting Ebonyi for the CACM initiative and noted that the project timeline has been extended from one year to two. He expressed gratitude for the assistance that addresses the capacity and infrastructure deficits in the criminal justice system.

Senior Programme Manager for Access to Justice at PPDC, Mrs. Linda Daze, explained that the aim of the CACM project is to enhance the effectiveness of Nigeria’s criminal justice system. She pointed out that the project has seen success in states such as Nasarawa, Kaduna, and Plateau.

Mrs. Daze outlined that the project focuses on four main areas: court administration, case management, scheduling, and notifications, emphasizing that improvements in these areas will foster public trust in the justice system.

The CACM initiative is funded with support from the United States Department of State Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, further aiding efforts to enhance justice delivery in Ebonyi.
