The Ebonyi State Government has been praised for its continued efforts to enhance the operations of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). During a courtesy visit to Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru at the State Government House, Abakaliki, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, the NYSC Director-General, commended the state for its proactive support and dedication.
Highlighting recent achievements, General Ahmed acknowledged the government’s renovations at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Afikpo, including the reconstruction of a fire-damaged hostel and the upgrade of the multi-purpose hall. He described these efforts as vital to creating a conducive training environment for Corps Members.
The DG further appealed for improved welfare support for Corps Members, including monthly stipends, and requested the return of the Ezillo Rice Mill to the NYSC for use as a demonstration farm in line with federal food security initiatives.
Mrs. Foluke Oladeinde, the NYSC Ebonyi State Coordinator, also requested additional resources, including a Hilux van, a fully equipped camp clinic, accommodation for medical staff, an ambulance, and more hostels at the orientation camp.
Governor Nwifuru, while acknowledging the NYSC’s role in shaping young leaders, assured the delegation of his administration’s willingness to address their concerns.
In a show of immediate action, the state presented a brand-new Toyota Hilux van to the NYSC State Coordinator, facilitated by Honourable Richard Ugo Idike, Chairman of the NYSC Ebonyi State Governing Board and Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development. This gesture further underscores the state’s commitment to supporting the Scheme’s operations.
